Barangay Ginebra turned to its defense to stave off determined Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 89-82, in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday night. After a tough loss last week, the reigning champions rediscovered their winning ways to take the solo lead with 8-2 card, and close in on twice-to-beat incentive, while handing the E-Painters their fourth loss in nine starts.

Justin Brownlee got the better of his counterpart, as he ended up with game-high 28 points and 10 boards, but Ginebra also got double-digit scoring output from Tenorio, Thompson, and Slaughter.
Clamping down on defense, the Gin Kings only allowed Rain or Shine to score 32 points in the first two quarters to lead by as many as 14 at one point in the second frame, before heading into the dugout with 37-32 edge.
