Christian Standhardinger sparked the huge turnaround after dropping 12 of his 16 points, while Terrence Romeo bucked a bad start to pour 11 of 17 markers in the team’s 28-9 explosion in the third period.

Carl Bryan Cruz knocked down three triple to end up with 11 points, Roger Pogoy added nine, while Gabe Norwood and Matthew Wright had eight markers apiece to help Gilas top the Group B standings with a 2-0 record that sealed their quarterfinals entry.

Gilas goes on a third-quarter rampage to beat Iraq, 84-68.

Propelled by a huge third-quarter salvo, the Gilas Pilipinas picked up its second victory in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup after overpowering Iraq, 84-68, on Friday night at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex in Beirut, Lebanon.

After a lackluster first half, Gilas’ dangerous form showed up after the halftime as they imposed disruptive defense and repeatedly pounded the opponents on offensive end to turn a 32-31 second quarter lead to a 60-40 advantage heading into the final frame.

Naturalized player Kevin Galloway had an all-around effort of 23 points, 14 boards and six assists on top of two blocks and two steals, but didn’t have enough support from the Iraqis as only Karrar Hamzah managed to score in double digits with 12 points.
