Calvin Abueva piled up 18 points and 21 rebounds as the Alaska Aces boosted their hunt for a playoff spot after breezing past the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 103-87, in the PBA Governors’ Cup Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Import LaDontae Henton also filled the statsheet with 15 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and four steals. RJ Jazul top-scored for Alaska with 19 points.

With the win, Alaska, now at 5-5, forced a four-way tie with Phoenix, NLEX and Meralco for fifth to eighth places.

Alaska zoomed to a double-digit advantage in the second period after turning a slim 31-28 advantage into a 51-39 cushion at the break.

The Aces maintained their lead in the third period, with Banchero and Abueva dousing every attempt by Phoenix to come back.

However, the Fuel Masters had a serious run early in the fourth frame, trimming their deficit to just five points, 82-77, after a Norbert Torres triple at the 8:07 mark.

But the Aces quickly woke up and dropped a 13-0 bomb to establish a commanding 95-77 lead with 4:15 remaining.

Improt Eugene Phelps scored 34 points and was the only Phoenix player in double digits.
