The Phoenix Fuel Masters pulled off a massive comeback to deal the Mahindra Enforcer their first loss, 100-94, in the PBA Governors’ Cup Friday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off a 52-point PBA debut, import Eugene Phelps had a relatively modest outing with 23 points but he got a lot of support from his teammates as Phoenix (2-3) nailed its second straight win.

Cyrus Baguio sank huge baskets down the stretch en route to 22 points. Mark Borboran also made crucial plays late in the game to score 11 of his 13 markers in the fourth quarter that completed their rally from a 20-point deficit.

James White scored 24 points, while Aldrech Ramos chipped in 18 points for Mahindra (4-1) which saw the end of its dream start.

Behind the hot start of White and KG Canaleta, Mahindra quickly gained control of the game, zooming to a 23-11 lead that they turned into a 34-14 cushion in the second quarter.

But Phoenix recovered from its scoring struggles by ending the first half with a bang. In just four minutes, the Fuel Masters launched a 21-3 run capped by a Lee Gwan Hee buzzer-beating triple that pulled them within one, 45-44, at the half.

Phoenix completed its run by finally taking the lead, 46-45, off a Phelps jumper early in the third quarter. The teams traded baskets the entire third frame, with Mahindra grabbing a slim 71-68 lead heading into the final quarter where the close battle continued.

Baguio buried a triple to give Phoenix an 87-84 lead with 4:21 lead, a small cushion the Fuel Masters were able to hold in the dying minutes.

Borboran then completed a four-point play after converting a triple and drawing a flagrant from Ramos. Baguio followed it up with a tough pullup jumper for a 95-92 Phoenix lead with 1:15 left.

Down by just three, 97-94, Mahindra had a chance to tie the game. But Canaleta and Mike DiGregorio missed their respective attempts. Willie Wilson and Borboran put the finishing touches to seal the win for Phoenix.
