Tropang TNT opens with 29-4 start, holds off late NLEX rally to notch win, Tropang TNT shook off some of their struggles after riding a hot 29-4 start towards a tough victory over sister team NLEX, 85-80, in the 2016 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Philsports Arena.

TNT, the defending second conference champions, saw a lead of as high as 27 whittled down to just three in the endgame but made the necessary plays to see it through.

Import David Simon had 23 points, 16 rebounds, three steals and four blocks while Jai Reyes and Harvey Carey each added 11 markers.

Ranidel De Ocampo and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser also chipped in with nine points apiece.

Tropang TNT got off to an incredible start, scoring the game’s first 13 points led by Troy Rosario and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser.

After NLEX import Al Thornton gave his team its first basket, Dylan Ababou, Ranidel De Ocampo and Jai Reyes all knocked down three-pointers as they secured a more than comfortable 25-point lead, 29-4.

They led, 34-15, at the end of the first quarter after shooting 6-for-9 (67-percent) from three-point range. Ababou and Reyes both knocked down two triples for TNT while import David Simon held the fort on the defensive end, grabbing five rebounds and blocking two shots.

Simon then took over in the second quarter, dunking several times as Tropang TNT scored eight straight to open the period. That gave them a whopping 27-point lead, 42-15, as NLEX fell behind in a big way.
