Allein Maliksi waxed hot from the rainbow country, making all of his six triples including a crucial one down the stretch to lift the Star Hotshots to a 96-88 victory over Tropang TNT in the OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Maliksi tallied a career-high 29 points, 18 of which came in the second quarter where he almost single-handedly erased the Hotshots’ 18-point deficit.

TNT got off to a good start, claiming a 26-13 lead after a strong finishing kick in the first quarter.

Tropa expanded the cushion to 18, 33-15, on a Troy Rosario jumper before Maliksi erupted in the second quarter. Coming off the bench, he suddenly exploded and poured in 10 points in an 18-0 run that tied things up at 33-all.

Ranidel De Ocampo, who scored 10 in the second quarter, responded with a barrage of triples but Maliksi remained hot and scored eight points for the remainder of the quarter where both teams exchanged leads.

Justin Melton nailed a triple off the glass with 0.7 ticks left in the first half to put Star ahead, 51-49, but the Star bench committed a huge blunder when Alex Mallari and Mark Barroca prematurely celebrated the shot by entering the court.

They were both slapped with technicals, giving TNT two free throws that allowed them to knot the game at 51-all at halftime.

The Hotshots were able to gain headstart by scoring the first five points of the third quarter, but TNT, after trailing 64-58, dropped a 15-2 bomb to get the lead back, 73-66, heading into the final period.
