Alyssa Valdez’s thoughts on the DLSU Lady Spikers ahead of their match against Ateneo tomorrow.

MANILA – Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles remained undefeated in UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball after a 25-12, 25-10, 25-10 sweep of the hapless University of the East Lady Warriors.
Jhoanna Maraguinot led the way with 12 points for the two-time defending champion, which improved its record to 6-0 this season, 24-0 since it last lost in March 2014.

Two-time UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez added 10 markers, while Bea De Leon and Madeleine Madayag combined for 15 points during Wednesday night’s game at San Juan Arena.

Lady Eagles is set to face rival De La Salle University Lady Spikers tomorrow at Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
“I hope coach (Anusorn Bundit) is really happy because everyone on the team really contributed,” said Valdez. “Pati yung second stringers na pinasok, they really played well.”

Lady Eagles had a strong start to take a 9-4 lead on Maraguinot attack. It continued its domination behind Valdez, De Leon and Madayag to wrap up the first set, 25-12.

In the second set, Lady Eagles went to Maraguinot and Ahomiro early to build a 9-3 advantage. The lead even went up to 16-6 after an ace by rookie Jennelle Lo. After consecutive hits by Lady Warriors, De Leon ended the set with back-to-back hits.

Lady Eagles continued its supremacy in the third for a 10-4 start via conversions by Negrense Kim Gequillana and Julia Morado. Valdez and Maraguinot connived in the end to seal the win in just 64 minutes.
Judith Abil top-scored with three points, while Celine Domingo and Mary Anne Mendrez added two points each for the 0-6 Lady Warriors, whose star player Shaya Adorador was held scoreless.
