The Filipino Boxer’s Warlito Parrenas vs David Carmona Full Fight July 5, 2015, Pinoy boxers round 2 knocked down David Carmona but the end of fight still calling for draw of title match WBO Junior Bantamweight.
Filipino boxer Warlito Parrenas knocked David Carmona to the canvas in round two, but only managed a split decision draw in their 12-round fight in Hermosillo, Mexico for the interim WBO junior bantamweight title on Sunday, July 5
Parrenas (24-6-1, 21 knockouts) of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, Philippines was the aggressor throughout, but the intelligent boxing Carmona (19-2-5, 8 KOs) drew from the support of his home country fans, counterpunching his way back into the fight in the style of Juan Manuel Marquez.
Parrenas, who had won 7 straight fights heading into the fight, had a closed left eye by the ninth round. One judge scored the fight 115-113 for Parrenas, while another had it 115-112 for Carmona and 114-114 even.
The result renders the interim title vacant, meaning that there will be no immediate challenger to full titleholder Naoya Inoue of Japan, who is recovering from a hand injury sustained in his second round knockout victory over Omar Narvaez to win the title in December.
Despite the loss, Parrenas remains the no. 1 contender by the WBO, though Narvaez may seek an immediate rematch when Inoue’s hand heals.
