Matthew 6:13 | The Lord’s Prayer
5, “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
6, But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7, And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard.
8, Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
9, So then, this is how you should pray: ‘
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,
10, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11, Give us this day our daily bread,
12, And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors;
13, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
14, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15, But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.
16, When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.
17, But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18, so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Luke 4:13 | The Temptation of Jesus
2, where for forty days He was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He was hungry.
3, The devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
4, But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”
5, Then the devil led Him up to a high place and showed Him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.
6, “I will give You authority over all these kingdoms and all their glory,” he said. “For it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.
7, So if You worship me, it will all be Yours.”
8, But Jesus replied, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”
9, Then the devil led Him to Jerusalem and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple. “If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw Yourself down from here.
10, For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You to guard You carefully;
11, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
12, But Jesus declared, “It also says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
13, When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.
14, Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and the news about Him spread throughout the surrounding region.
James 1:13 | Good and Perfect Gifts
12, Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
13, When tempted, no one should say, “- God” is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.
14, But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.
15, Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
16, Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.
17, Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.
18, He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.
Luke 22:40 | Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
39, Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him.
40, When He came to the place, He told them, “Pray that you will not enter into temptation.”
41, And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, where He knelt down and prayed,
42, “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
43, Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him.
John 8:6 | The Woman Caught in Adultery
5, In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such a woman. So what do You say?”
6, They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger.
7, When they continued to question Him, He straightened up and said to them, “Whoever is without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone at her.”
8, And again He bent down and wrote on the ground.
9, When they heard this, they began to go away one by one, beginning with the older ones, until only Jesus was left, with the woman standing there.
1 Corinthians 10:13 | Warnings from Israel’s Past
12, So the one who thinks he is standing firm should be careful not to fall.
13, No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.
14, Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15, I speak to reasonable people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16Is not the cup of blessing that we bless a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
16, Is not the cup of blessing that we bless a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?.
17, Because there is one loaf, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf.
18, Consider the people of Israel: Are not those who eat the sacrifices fellow partakers in the altar?
19, Am I suggesting, then, that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20, No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons.
21, You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot partake in the table of the Lord and the table of demons too.
22, Are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
23, “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is edifying.
24, No one should seek his own good, but the good of others.
25, Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,
26, for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.”
27, If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat anything set before you without raising questions of conscience.
28, But if someone tells you, “This food was offered to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience—
29, the other one’s conscience, I mean, not your own. For why should my freedom be determined by someone else’s conscience?
30, If I partake in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?
31, So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.
32, Do not become a stumbling block, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God,…
32, Do not become a stumbling block, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God,
33, just as I try to please everyone in all I do. For I am not seeking my own good, but the good of many, that they may be saved.
Galatians 4:14 | Paul’s Fears for the Galatians
13, You know that it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you.
14, And although my illness was a trial to you, you did not despise me or reject me. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.
15, What then has become of your blessing? For I can testify that, if it were possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.
16, Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
17, Those people are zealous for you, but not in a good way. Instead, they want to isolate you from us, so that you will be zealous for them.
18, Nevertheless, it is good to be zealous if it serves a noble purpose—at any time, and not only when I am with you.
Revelation 3:10 | To the Church in Philadelphia
9, Look at those who belong to the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews but are liars instead. I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and they will know that I love you.
10, Because you have kept My command to endure with patience, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
11, I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.
12, The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never again leave it. Upon him I will write the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from My God), and My new name.
13, He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
14, To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God’s creation.
15, I know your deeds; you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were one or the other.
16, So because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of My mouth!.
17, You say, ‘I am rich; I have grown wealthy and need nothing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
18, I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.
19, Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.
20, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
21, To the one who is victorious, I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22, He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
