The Hotshots disposed of shorthanded Batang Pier, 127-100, for their first three-game winning streak under rookie head coach Jason Webb in the 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday night at Mall of Asia Arena.
Ricardo Ratliffe had 28 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the field that went with 13 rebounds and three blocks while Allein Maliksi led all locals in scoring with 21 as Star evened its win-loss record to 4-4.
GlobalPort, which played without its two best locals in Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle for the second game in a row, reeled to its fourth consecutive setback.
He was backed up by gunners Simon, Maliksi and Barroca, who all knocked down three-pointers in the Hotshots’ opening salvo as they took a double-digit lead, 31-19, at the end of the period.
In the second, it was Maliksi who shone for Star, knocking down two more threes en route to 10 second quarter points as his team stretched its advantage to a whopping 21 points at the break.
Ratliffe had 16 points while Maliksi added 13 at the half.
Barroca, Simon and Yap then led a big rally for Star in the third quarter. Barroca and Simon both hit triples while Yap finished on an alley-oop and completed a three-point play to cap the run, which gave the Hotshots a 32-point lead, 84-52.
They were able to lead by as many as 34 points, 119-85, in the fourth quarter on an Alex Mallari trey.
Paolo Taha scored 16 points for the Batang Pier while Joseph Yeo, who has been rumored to be on the trading block, added 14 markers.
