Phoenix moved ahead in the first quarter after closing out the period on a 10-2 run, built around big three-pointers from Garcia and Mick Pennisi. That gave the Fuel Masters vs Mahindra a double-digit lead, 34-23, at the end of the first.
They then scored nine unanswered points to open the second quarter with Rodney Brondial knocking down three free throws, and Pennisi and Eman Monfort hitting two more triples, stretching the lead to the 20-point mark, 43-23.
Phoenix led, 61-47, at halftime with Garcia and Pennisi, who combined to shoot 6-for-9 from three-point range in the first half, leading the way with 13 and 10 points.
Mahindra showed some life in the third quarter with Karl Dehesa and import Augustus Gilchrist helping trim the deficit down to just eight points, 67-59.
But Pinkney scored eight of Phoenix’s next 10 points and the Fuel Masters stretched the lead once again and some late triples from Wilson and Josh Urbiztondo pushed the difference back up to 20, 92-72, at the end of the third.
Mahindra could not mount a serious challenge in the fourth quarter with the lead going no lower than 15 points in the final period.
Not even a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Gilchrist from near halfcourt could make a difference for the Enforcers.
Gilchrist had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Mahindra. KG Canaleta added 18 points, nine boards and five assists.
